OBITUARY Porter D. Mummey Succumbs Yesterday
Local Resident dies after long illness: Services Saturday.
Months of suffering were ended around 9:30 last evening as Porter David Mummey, 70, passed away at his home here on South State Street. He had been in failing health two years and in critical condition eight months from cancer.
He had been hospitalized many times, undergoing surgery three times within three months, the last time being in January of this year. He was confined in San Antonio Hospital, Kenton, and was dismissed on February 8, to his home here.
Mr. Mummey was born July 8, 1889, in Union County, a son of David and Sara Brown-Mummey. On November 8, 1909, he was united in marriage with Iva Benton, who survives.
The deceased was a farmer and in later life was employed for 15 years by Patton Brothers Dry Cleaning in Bellefontaine. He and his wife moved to Belle Center in November 1957, residing here about a year. They then moved back to Rushsylvania where they lived until February 7, when they moved into the Dr. Fred George house on North Center Street. They purchased the present home and moved in on May 16.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Nile Mummey of R. R. 1, Degraff and Clyde Mummey of R. R. 1, Rushsylvania; a daughter Mrs. Denton (Blanche) Steig of West Mansfield; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Ohair of Toledo, and Mrs. Glen Atha Miller of St. Louis, MO.
Proceeding him in death were three sons, Dahl Mummey, at the age of 42, Woodrow Mummey, 28, and Russell Mummey, in infancy; four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Ward, Mrs. Lucy Hemphill, Mollie and Grace Mummey; a half brother, Howard Snodgrass; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock in the Kennedy Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. The Rev. Henry M. Lynd, pastor of the local Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be made in Wolk Creek Cemetery, Hardin County.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and until the hour of the funeral.

OBITUARY Mrs. Porter Mummey; Claimed Saturday
Local Resident Never Recovers From Stroke; hold Funeral Services Tuesday
Mrs. Iva E. Mummey, 75 passed away Saturday in San Antonio Hospital, Kenton, where she had been confined since Labor Day. She was found about 6:30 that evening by her neighbors, Mr and Mrs. William Wright, on the floor in her home on South State Street, after they became concerned when she had not been see that day. At first it was thought she had attended a family reunion but when a basket of clothes, taken to her home to be washed, was left on the front porch, Mr. and Mrs. Wright decided to investigate. She had suffered a stroke of paralysis and was taken to the hospital for treatment. She had been in falling health a year.
Born August 16, 1890, in Logan County, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Benton. On November 8, 1910, she was married to Porter Mummey, who died July 15, 1959.
The deceased attended the Church of Christ.
She is survived by a son, Clyde Mummey of DeGraff, a daughter, Mrs. Denton (Blanche) Stieg of Rushsylvania, several grandchildren and great=grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by four sons, Nile N. Mummey on July 31, 1963; Diahl at the age of 42, Woodrow at 38 and Russell in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Mummey had moved to Belle Center in November 1957, residing here about a year. They then moved back to Rushsylvania, where they lived until February 7, 1959, when they moved into the Dr. Fred George house on North Center Street. They purchased the home on South State Street and moved May 17, 1959.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Kennedy Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with the Rev. Dennis C. Weaver, paster of the local Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was made in Wolf Creek Cemetery in Hardin County.

OBITUARY Nile N. Mummey, 50, Claimed Wednesday.
Resided in Belle Center with Mother; Final Rites are Friday
Nile N. Mummey, 50, who formerly resided with his mother, Mrs. Porter Mummey, on South State Street, passed away Wednesday at 12:40 a.m. in Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine. He had entered the hospital Saturday from the Hughes Rest Home in Huntsville where he had been a patient a year.
Mr. Mummey had suffered from physical disabilities for a great deal of his lifetime, having lost his left eye about 26 years of age after it was struck with a screw driver. He suffered his first stroke of paralysis when 35 years old and was partially crippled from then on. A year ago, he suffered a stroke which left him completely helpless and he was taken to the rest home at that time.
A son of Porter and Iva Benton Mummey, he was born April 16, 1913 in Hardin County. He was a carpenter by trade.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Major-Mummey, who resides in Lewistown; his mother; a brother, Clyde Mummey of DeGraff and a sister Mrs. Denton (Blanche) Stieg of Lima.
Proceeding him in death were his father on August 15, 1959 and three brother, Diahl, Woodrow and Russell.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Kennedy Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. The Rev. C. Lloyd Harris of Rushsylvania will officiate and burial will be made in Wolf Creek Cemetery, near Mt. Victory.

OBITUARY Mrs. Woodrow Mummey, 26
Died Sunday in the home of her sister, Mrs. Vigil Salyers in Richwood. She had been ill seven months of facial paralysis and had been receiving treatment at the University Hospital in Columbus. After her last three week period of treatment there, she returned to her home a week ago and was then taken to her sister's home for care.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Shank of Kenton, Mrs. Mummey was born July 31, 1918, in Ridgeway. She was married to Mr. Mummey on Feb. 1, 1937.
Surviving are her parents; her Husband; five children, Barbara, Mary Jean, Kathryn, Woodrow Arden, Jr. and James Lee; three sister, Mr. Paul Hatcher of Kenton, Mrs. Frank Carro of New York City and Mrs. Salyers, at whose home she died; and three brother Gerald Shark of New York City, Lawrence Shark of Kenton and Carlton Shark. A fourth brother was killed in action Aug. 23, 1944.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Bellefontaine. Burial was made in Wolf Creek cemetery.

OBITUARY C. P. Mummey, 54 Dies In Dayton
Ill five months and hospitalized one week, Clyde Porter Mummey, 54, was claimed last Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in Brown Hospital, Veterans' Facility, Dayton. His home was on R. R. 1, Maplewood.
Born February 14, 1918, Mr. Mummey was a son of Porter and Iva Benton-Mummey, who, prior to their demise were residents of Belle Center. His father preceded him in death July 15, 1959 and his mother on September 11, 1965. Also dead are four brothers, Nile Diahl, Woodrow, and Russell.
The deceased was a farmer and had moved from Logan County to Shelby County in 1965. He had served as a Seaman First Class with the U. S. Navy in World War I and was a member of the Sidney DAV.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Telton-Mummey, to whom he was married November 8, 1934; two sons Warren and David Mummey, both of R. R. 1, Maplewood; four daughters Mrs. Richard (Janice) Ward, R. R. 1, Maplewood; Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Bell, R. R. 1, Quincy, Mrs. Ray (Diana) Reineke and Mrs. Richard (Jennifer) Hughes, both of Sidney; 14 grandchildren and a Sister, Mrs. Blance Stieg of Lima.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon i the Reeder and Son Funeral Home in DeGraff
followed by interment in Greenwood Cemetery there.
Pallbearers were member of the Sidney DAV and included Don Meyers, Ronal Elsner, Bob Weinrick, Al Meyer, Charles Paulis and Bernard Carter.

OBITUARY Opal L. Mummey
Opal L. Mummey, 81, of 210 Doorley Road, Apt. H., Sidney, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, December 26, 1999, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
Born in Bellefontaine on May 27, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Vernar A. and Blanche M. Inskeep Yelton.
On Nov. 8, 1934, she married Clyde P. Mummey, who preceded her in death in 1972.
She is survived by six children, Warren of Houston, Mrs. Richard (Janice) Ward of Maplewood, Mrs. Doyle (Shirley) Ceylor of Sidney, David of Sidney, Mrs. Wiliam (Diana) Reineke of Maplewood and Mrs. Robert (Jennifer) Lay of Sidney; a sister, Elnora Matlack of Galion; two half-sister, Barbara James of Bellefontaine and Martha Jean King of Glendora, CA; a stepsister Loretta Jamison of Bellefontaine, 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, three half-brothers, two half-sisters and a stepsister.
Mrs. Mummey was a member of the Jackson Center Baptist Church. She retired from Monarch Machine and Tool in 1980 and also had worked at Hussey's Restaurant in Port Jefferson as a cook.
The Rev. Keith Wisecup will conduct funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cromes Funeral Home, Sidney, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 67 to 89 p.m. today.
Interment will be in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Shelby County Cancer Society or to the Jackson Center Baptist Church.
