All children wed in Quaker cermonies except Joseph
This family left the West River-The Clifts area when cetrtificates to Monocacy were given to Joseph and Thomas on 26 May 1749. After the death of Samuel, the entire family followed the lead of the two eldest sons and moved to Frederick Co.
Samuel Sr. was by far the most successful of his brothers. As a major benefactor of Richard Rose , he is called "my loving friend" and was bequeathed "Rose's Purchase",(41) in Prince George's County, which later became the plantation where his children were born and raised. In the West River MM on the 4th Day of 1st mo. 1723, Sarah Miles became his bride. Their original marriage certificate is preserved in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. The births of their children are recorded in the West River MM registry of which meeting, he was appointed Overseer the 26th Day of 4th mo, 1759 and in the Pipe Creek MM.(43) He acquired "Upper Getting" adjoining the home plantation, both of which he later devised to his widow. Turning his attention to Frederick Co., MD he obtained title to 1,455 acres. Two tracts are notable, "Pleasant Meadow (Pleasant Meddo) upon which part of present-day Monrovia was established by son Joseph (44) and "Hunting Lott" where New Market was laid out in 1793 by grandson William Plummer son of Thomas and by Nicholas Hall.(45) Quoting his obituary, "On Wed. 12th Inst. (12 Dec 1759) Mr. Samuel Plumer of Prince Georges Co. was found dead in the road near his Plantation and is supposed to have died of a fit of apoplexty. He was sober, industrious and above 60 years of age." (46)
It is evident from church records that Samuel did not name all of his children in the Will written 13 Jan 1754 and witnessed by Rich Thomas and Mary Moore.(47) Named in order of birth with names of mates added and tracts inherited one fnds the following: Ruth wed Richard Hollad "Rich Hills" on Linganore, Thomas (Eleanor (Walker) Poultney) "Hunting Lott" on draught of Linganore, Joseph (Sarah Sollers) "Pleasant Meddo" on Bush Creek, Samuel Jr. (Mary Tucker) "Food Plenty" and "Rocky Hill" above forks of Bush Creek, Cassandra wed Friends Elder William Ballenger part of "Hickory lains", Friends minister Sarah wed Mahion Janney, Abraham (Sarah Ward) part of "Hickory Plains", Rachel wed John Harris part of "Hickory Plains" on Bush Creek, Ursula remained single, Elizabeth wed Moses Harris, Anna wed Friends Elder Joseph Talbott III and Susanna wed Anthony Poultney. Several children moved into the area that became Frederick County prior to their father's passing. After which their widowed mother and the remaining children followed. Sarah passed the 3rd Day of 10 mo. 1788 near New Market. The Bush Creek (Monrovia) Society of Friends meeting house was established on land donated by Joseph. Many of Samuel and Sarah's decendants through the generations have held a birth-right in the Society of Friends.
